Soups and Side Dishes
Consumers consider colour to be a sign of healthiness in prepared foods. With this in mind, manufacturers such as Knorr are including more colour and boasting a high-fiber content in their packaged soups by featuring pumpkin, corn, apricot and leek ingredients.
In Japan, black signifies good health and black vinegar and black sesame are revered as healthy ingredients. A new product called Asahi Kuroi Potage (black potage) is a black-coloured soup made with sweet corn that is blended with black sesame paste.
In South Africa, emphasis is placed on weight control. A product called Bodymate Reduce & Shape Fat Burning Soup claims to promote fat loss. The fiber-enriched soup is available in a Sundried Tomato and Basil flavour and satisfies the appetite for as long as four hours and also boosts energy.
