One of the hardest aspects about cooking vegan food is finding great-tasting cheese substitutes. Even though Parma Zaan Sprinkles is not a substitute in the sense that you can slice, dice or grate it as you would with animal-derived cheese, the product does impart a tasty cheesy flavour to meals. It’s best used in dishes wherein it can be absorbed such as in casseroles, stews and stuffing.

Vegenaise is a dream-come-true for vegans. This faux mayonnaise tastes anything but fake. In fact, it has the same richness and body that regular mayonnaise has, but without all the “bad fat” calories. Vegenaise is made by Follow Your Heart and is available in regular and Grapeseed Oil flavours: I am particularly partial to the latter. You will find it at your health food stores.

I have found the double-concentrated “Amore Italian Tomato Paste” to be a high-quality product and one I prefer to use. It is packaged in a tube (not unlike toothpaste). If your grocery store does stock it, you will find it alongside the canned varieties.
